WRESTLING: Australian wrestler Talgat Ilyasov’s long-awaited Olympic debut has come to an abrupt end after he suffered a horrific injury in his first bout.

TAEKWONDO: Carmen Marton and Hayder Shkara have suffered heavy opening-round defeats in the taekwondo at the Rio Olympics.

GOLF: Aussies Minjee Lee and Su Oh have enjoyed strong starts to the third round. Lee birdied her opening hole to close to within three shots of the overnight leader, South Korea’s Inbee Park (-10). Su Oh has run hot on the front nine with five birdies to be back in contention.

SHOWJUMPING: Aussie Edwina Tops-Alexander is on track for a medal after producing a brilliant penalty-free ride on Lintea Tequila to advance to the top 20 and deciding stage.
