Giant shot putter has even bigger tantrum

You don’t want to set off someone the size of US shot putter Joe Kovacs at any time, let alone in the middle of the Olympic final.

But the officials were just doing their job.

Kovacs, the form thrower in the world the last two or three years, launched something awesome early in the final.

It would have moved him into first place.

But he turned around and saw the dreaded red flag from the official. he had clipped the top of the board with his foot.

Kovacs heartily disagreed and turned his attention to the poor official.

He launched a couple of big, red-faced expletives at the person who staunchly stood their ground.

One might have been tempted to swap to the white flag.

Kovacs still ended up with silver, losing to countryman Ryan Crouser.

Australian Damien Birkinhead finished tenth overall.
