7th Tackle: Langmack out of rehab and up for PNG

We were glad to bump into Bulldogs great Paul Langmack last week.

The 52-year-old checked himself into rehab late last month – and there was widespread concern for his wellbeing.

One of the game’s most active characters, Langmack’s lust for life took a mental toll in 2017.

He’s been the key figure in encouraging rugby league to open its arms to the Gay & Lesbian community, organising an NRL-themed float at the Mardi Gras for the past two years.

He’s also been diagnosed with throat cancer over that time and kept the scars battle well hidden behind his energetic demeanor.

Langmack checked into the facility in Sydney’s Inner West straight after a radio interview in which he revealed he and Tommy Raudonikus backed their own team to win matches.

The simple conclusion was to connect the two, but Langmack’s admission was the result of far deeper issues than speaking publicly about a practice that was commonplace more than two decades ago.

He spent around 10 days in rehab, before checking out and was in good spirits when he spoke with him outside NSWRL headquarters, his current workplace.

“I’ve just got to learn to slow down,” he chuckled.

Langmack has planned to join fellow Bulldogs legends Andrew Ryan, Reni Maitua and Mark O’Meley on a club-sponsored to trip to PNG in late October.

The ex-players will pick up tools and help repairs schools and health care centres in remote regions.

Moses Mbye has also signalled his interest to join them.
