7th Tackle: Banned talent guru eyes return

After nearly 12 months on the sidelines, former Storm and Roosters recruitment guru Peter O’Sullivan is eyeing a return.

The NRL cancelled O’Sullivan’s registration indefinitely last October, following an investigation into his financial dealings with big-time punter Eddie Hayson.

The ban was originally declared “indefinite”, which most assumed equaled life.

But we’ve since been told O’Sullivan was only prevented from re-applying for 12 months and will be free to present his case for a new registration from 25 October.

We thought Newcastle would be the most likely home for the man credited with discovering Greg Inglis, Israel Folau and Latrell Mitchell – to name just a handful.

O’Sullivan coached under Knights boss Nathan Brown at the Dragons over a decade ago and the pair remain good mates.

But Newcastle has no vacancies, meaning O’Sullivan will need to look elsewhere.

His record would suggest that getting a new start shouldn’t be too difficult.
