Rio 2016 Day 16: As it happened

The Boomers ended their campaign in heartbreak, falling one point short against Spain in the gold medal match.

There were no such problems for the USA who took out the gold medal in commanding fashion against Serbia.

Here's how the final day of competition unfolded (All times AEST):


'BASKETBALL: The US Olympic men's basketball team won its third straight gold medal and did it easily, beating Serbia 96-66 on Sunday.

VOLLEYBALL: Brazil have won another gold, this time in men's volleyball with a three-set victory over Italy.

MARATHON: Eliud Kipchoge of Kenya finally has won the gold medal in the Olympic marathon, finishing with a time of two hours 8 minutes 44 seconds as he sprinted to the finish line with a smile on his face.

Feyisa Lelisa of Ethiopia finished second for the silver, while American Galen Rupp took bronze in his second marathon and first ever in the Olympics.

Australia's Liam Adams came 31st.
