Zach Wilson breaks silence after claims he slept with mum's friend

New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson has addressed the wild accusations currently circulating about his love life with a light-hearted social media post.

Over the weekend, Wilson had been accused by his ex-girlfriend Abbey Gile of allegedly sleeping with his mum’s best friend.

The 22-year-old took to Instagram to break his silence on the issue on Wednesday, publishing a series of training photos with a group of Jets teammates captioned: “Took the boys to @gozzerranchclub in Idaho before camp! Poor cell service…what I miss?”.

Wilson’s facetious acknowledgement of the situation drew praise in the comments section of the post with a number of prominent athletes commenting.

Jets teammates Braxton Berrios and Mike Carter chimed in, with Berrios commenting: "That’s my QB", while Carter simply said "legendary".

NBA star Donovan Mitchell commented "Caption comedy" with a laughing emoji, while US and Chelsea soccer player Christian Pulisic simply left a goat emoji.

Even Wilson’s mum Lisa had her say on the matter, commenting on the post: "A bunch of unnecessary drama. Apparently football needs to start", with an eyes rolling emoji.

The drama all unfolded after Gile was romantically linked to Washington Commanders wide receiver Dax Milne, who was a former teammate of Wilson’s at Brigham Young University.

Milne had posted a pair of images on Instagram over the weekend with a blonde woman who appeared to be Gile, prompting one social media user to label Gile a ‘homie hopper’.

Gile responded to the taunt by saying: "He (Wilson) was sleeping with his mom’s best friend… that’s the real homie hopper."

While Wilson had opted to stay silent on the issue until now, the initial revelation also prompted a social media storm, including a plethora of tweets from current and former NFL players.

Former NFL wide receiver Chad Johnson tweeted: "Zach Wilson is the [goat]", while former player-turned-pundit Damien Woody shared a meme of a kid tipping his hat with the caption, "Sees why Zach Wilson is trending."
