7th Tackle: The NRL club chasing Koroibete

Uncertainty over which Australian team will be culled to accommodate Super Rugby’s downsize has led to a flurry of interest in Marika Koroibete returning to the NRL.

Named in the current Wallabies squad for the trio of June Tests, Koroibete met with his agent in Sydney yesterday.

He switched codes last year on a rich deal worth capable of rising to $600,000 should he become a regular for the Wallabies.

Now on the cusp of making his international debut, Koroibete’s future in rugby is suddenly uncertain as the axe continues to hang over his Super Rugby club, the Melbourne Rebels.

We can reveal Parramatta is the first NRL outfit to express interest in bringing the devastating Fijian back to league.

The Eels’ interest makes sense – Koroibete would be a like-for-like trade for Semi Radradra, who has joined French rugby powerhouse Toulon.

The club has also missed the signatures of classy wingers David Nofoaluma and Daniel Tupou in recent months.
