7th Tackle: Hayne plane sheds excess baggage

Jarryd Hayne copped plenty over his physical condition in the opening weeks of the premiership – so it’s only fair we give him some praise for addressing that criticism.

The Titans fullback returned to footy after a five-week lay-off at his lowest playing weight in years – precisely 100kg.

That’s at least 4kg off the frame that he injured (ankle) against Newcastle in Round 2.

Team mates are also raving about Hayne’s renewed attitude, claiming his become a sudden mentor to younger players and is now a pleasure to have on board.

Could the readjustment have something to do with the fact his future will be decided in the next month? Or that Origin is just around the corner?

Hayne will have to displace Michael Jennings at left centre to break back into the NSW side.

At the moment Jennings still has the inside running, courtesy of his match-winning try at the death in Game Three last year.

But with three club rounds still to play before the teams are selected, Hayne has enough time to swoop.
