7th Tackle: Brailey a class act

Long before he made his NRL debut, Sharks hooker Jayden Brailey demonstrated the qualities needed to succeed at this level.

Brailey was a hugely popular student at his high school, Aquinas College in Menai.

It was therefore no surprise that he was voted school captain at the start of Year 12.

The teenager was hugely honoured – but also left with a tough dilemma.

His commitment to rugby league was growing and he was unsure if he could do the job properly.

With a heavy heart, he approached the school’s administration and told them he couldn’t accept the captaincy.

That sacrifice speaks volumes about Brailey’s character and upbringing.

Never the most talented or strongest player, he’s reached the top through pure hard work and persistence.

We’ve also been told he’s a non-drinker – a rarity for a 21-year-old.
