7th Tackle: Sharks circle as Segeyaro turns to touch footy

Still desperate to return to the NRL, exiled hooker James Segeyaro has turned to touch football to stay fit.

The Kumul rake has been spotted in a Monday night competition in Sydney. Our spies say Segeyaro is looking match-ready, despite the fact he hasn't pulled on the boots in anger since last September.

"He looks like he could play tomorrow," one witness observed.

Struggling for a top-line hooker to replace champion rake Mick Ennis, Cronulla wish that were the case. The Sharks have a two-year offer ready for Segeyaro but his well-documented dispute with Leeds has left both parties in limbo.

Leeds claim Segeyaro breached his contract by failing to return to England in January. Segeyaro says there was no contract, because the club had offered a different set of terms and failed to pay him in December.

Resolution talks are still ongoing, with Cronulla desperate for a breakthrough that would see them avoid having to pay Leeds a $400,000 transfer fee.

It's now been four months since he's had a pay day and the 26-year-old is obviously struggling. He's needed to rely on the generosity of friends and family to stay afloat.
