Kamila Valieva's doping controversy continues to cause outrage around the world with the British Olympic Association (BOA) calling for anyone found responsible to face heavy sanctions after the Winter Olympics.

The world reacted with shock when 15-year-old skating phenom Valieva failed a doping test before her competition, but was allowed to compete in extraordinary circumstances.

The drama surrounding the teenager and her coaches came under heavy scrutiny with other athletes and former champions declaring she shouldn't be able to compete

And BOA's chief executive Andy Anson wants a thorough investigation into everyone around the teenager.

Anson called for tough action to be taken as the situation surrounding the 15-year-old is completely 'unacceptable'.

“The Valieva stuff is horrific,” Anson said following the conclusion of the Beijing Games.

“I don’t think we can pretend that it’s anything other than that.

"The investigation into everyone around her needs to be thorough and go as deep as it possibly can because what happened there was just completely unacceptable."

Anson alluded to Russia's doping drama from Sochi and claimed the nation should face a harsher ban if any wrongdoing is found.

The BOA chief executive said nothing less than a complete investigation is required considering the circumstances.

"This a global story and a pretty awful one,” he added.

“The IOC and everyone involved has to act and push this thing as far as they can. It’s not easy.

"I was on the tennis tour when there was the match-fixing scandal in Poland, and we tried to get to the bottom of that in Russia and the policemen who were leading that decided they would not be around if they carried on that investigation.

“But we have to push it as far as we can and make sure we get to the bottom of it.”

Russian coach responds to Kamila Valieva incident

While Valieva was able to compete at the Winter Olympics, the pressure was clearly weighing her down as she left the ice following her final skate in tears.

Valieva proceeded to be berated by Russian coach Eteri Tutberidze after the unusual stumbles that saw her end up finishing outside the medals in fourth place.

Tutberidze, who is set to come under investigation over the positive drug test Valieva returned on December 25, was caught on camera angrily confronting the clearly devastated 15-year-old.

IOC president Thomas Bach labelled the incident 'chilling'.

Tutberidze took to Instagram on Saturday and thanked those who had sent messages of support, and took aim at Bach.

"I am very grateful for the words of support," she wrote on an Instagram post.

"I am still at a loss from the assessment of our work by the esteemed Mr Bach."

Valieva's were far from the only tears on the ice last week, with fellow Russian Alexandra Trusova devastated after compatriot Anna Shcherbakova pipped her to gold.
