Dustin Poirier's wife is his biggest fan, that much is clear after Sunday's stunning upset of Conor McGregor at UFC 257 in Abu Dhabi.

Poirier scored a sensational knockout victory over the Irishman, decking him in the second round to put himself in pole position for another crack at the lightweight title.

Having lost his previous fight against McGregor, many were predicting a similar outcome for Poirier on UFC's Fight Island.

However, the American proved that he's become a much more experienced fighter, first targeting the Irishman with leg kicks, before finishing him off with a devastating flurry of strikes to the head.

While many fans were left in disbelief at the way Poirier dismantled McGregor, no one was prouder of the 32-year-old than his wife, Jolie.

Beaming with joy as she approached the Octagon, Poirier's wife delivered a telling message to the camera about anyone who'd doubted his ability.

“I told you! That’s the last time you’re going to doubt my husband, I swear to God,” she said into a cage-side camera.

Viewers absolutely loved what they saw from Poirier's wife, taking to social media to praise her energy.

A reporter said about Poirier's wife that he'd "never seen anybody so happy, literally doing laps of the Octagon, screaming and shouting”.

The American fighter praised his wife after the biggest win of his career and hailed the incredible journey that the couple has shared since getting together as teenagers.

“I heard her. As soon as I hit that last shot and turned away I heard my wife,” Poirier told BT Sport.

“She ran straight to the cage and said, ‘I told you so!’.

“(When I was young) I didn’t have a car. She’d drive me to shows (fights), we’d use her car, she’d stay in the broken down hotels and motels with me.

“Man, I don’t want to get emotional here but that’s my girl, she’s stuck it out with me, this win is as much hers as it is mine.

“I wouldn't be here without her, that’s for sure.”

McGregor KO’d for first time in career

The result marked the first time in McGregor's storied career that he has lost via knockout.

It also came after the Irishman had dominated the fight from the opening bell.

Controlling the centre of the octagon on Fight Island in Abu Dhabi, McGregor landed some hard shots with his right hand but he couldn't find the blow with his left that could have finished the fight early.

Instead Poirier scored with a hard right to get his back off the fence before landing a flurry of blows to beat the overwhelming favourite.

The knockout also silenced the thousands in the crowd cheering on McGregor and the arena emptied out quickly once the fight was over.

Poirier, who won the interim lightweight title in 2019 but came up short when Khabib Nurmagomedov beat him for the undisputed crown later the same year,

Nurmagomedov has since retired and if he does not return, Poirier is likely to face Michael Chandler, the former Bellator champion who scored a thunderous first-round knockout victory in his UFC debut over New Zealand's Dan Hooker in the evening's co-main event.
