Williams conqueror out after fiery temper tantrum

Swiss star Belinda Bencic smashed her racquet in fury before crashing out of the Australian Open in a second round upset against Thai qualifier Luksika Kumkhum.

Kumkhum sent the 20-year old Swiss woman packing at Melbourne Park courtesy of a 6-1 6-3 victory on Wednesday.

Two days after her shock opening-round triumph over seven-time major winner Venus Williams, Bencic was dumped out of the grand slam in dramatic style.

The world number 78's frustrations got the better of her at 6-1 5-3 and 15-0 down in the second set, when Bencic was given a code violation for smashing her racquet into the Melbourne Park surface.

The temper tantrum effected a swift end to the match for Bencic, who lost a handful of remaining points to exit the tournament in anger.

Kumkhum notched up 30 winners in the straight sets triumph to set up a third round clash against Petra Martic after the Coatian saw off the challenge of Romania's Irina-Camelia Begu to win 6-4 7-6 (7-3) on Wednesday.

The commanding victory over Bencic marked the second time the 24-year-old Kumkhum had caused a significant boilover at Melbourne Park.

Four years ago she dispatched Czech Petra Kvitova in the opening round.

In other women's action on Wednesday, No.4 seed Elina Svitolina set up an all-Ukrainian clash against 15-year-old qualifier Marta Kostyuk by beating Czech Katerina Siniakova 4-6 6-2 6-1.

Kostyuk downed Australian wildcard Olivia Rogowska 6-3 7-5, making her the youngest player to reach the third round at the Open since Martina Hingis in 1996.

Kateryna Bondarenko continued the good day for the Ukrainian contingent by ousting Russian No.15 seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-2 6-3.

Bondarenko will next play No.19 seed Magdalena Rybarikova after the Slovakia overcame a second-set blip to beat Belgian Kirsten Flipkens 6-4 0-6 6-2.
