Starc savaged after 'shocking' bit of unwanted history
Australian paceman Mitchell Starc has been hammered by fans after setting a shocking piece of unwanted history in the fourth Test against India.
Starc took a place in the Australia’s record books on Friday, but it wasn’t the one he wanted or might reasonably have expected.

The left arm quick entered the second day against India at the SCG needing just one more dismissal to become the 17th Australian to claim 200 Test wickets.
Sadly for the 28-year-old speedster, it was not only a fruitless day in the wicket column, but also in the one for maidens.
He finished with 1-123 off 26 overs, not one of which was a maiden.
It was the most overs bowled by an Australian in an innings in a home Test without a maiden since Australia reverted to six-ball overs in 1979-80.
The unfortunate statistic saw Starc facing calls for his axing from fans on social media.
Most overs bowled without a maiden by an Aussie at home since six-ball overs were introduced (1979/80):
26.0: Mitchell Starc v Ind, 2019
20.0: Murray Bennett v WI, 1984
19.0: Mitchell Starc v SL, 2013#AusvInd— Ethan (@ethan_meldrum) January 4, 2019
Mitchell Starc's 26 overs are the most in a Test innings by anyone who bowled the first over of the Test without a maiden over. His bowling figures: 26-0-123-1. #AUSvIND

just read that starc hasn’t bowled a single maiden in 26 overs, thought it was a test match? pitch must be flat but that’s not an excuse #shocking

Agreed. Starc 26 overs, 0 maidens. Hard to build pressure from one end

Said it last week, and I'll say it again now. Drop Mitch Starc. We're dropping batsmen for poor performance. He has been average for 12 months, and this series he has been frankly awful. #AUSvsIND

Yeah makes you wonder doesn’t it. Starc in particular isn’t a shadow of his former self.

Spinner Murray Bennett held the previous record, having conceded at least one run in each of his 20 overs against the West Indies, while Starc bowled 19 against Sri Lanka in 2013 without a maiden.
Starc sent down just eight overs on Friday, conceding another 48 runs.
He had to wait 45 minutes before getting the ball as captain Tim Paine started the day with Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins, and was hit for four off his first delivery.
He didn’t bowl in the middle session until just before tea, completing just two overs, and delivered just one after tea prior to India’s declaration.
To be fair to Starc, all of the Australian bowlers toiled with the four specialists each conceding more than 100 runs.
