Nathan Lyon's cheeky quip to Indian centurion goes viral

Nathan Lyon summed up the thoughts of the whole nation with a cheeky question for Cheteshwar Pujara on day one at the SCG.

Pujara’s third century of the series lifted India to 4-303 at stumps on Thursday in Sydney, where Australia failed to strike with the second new ball.

Pujara’s epic knock finished on 193 on Friday, when his highest score of a career-best series significantly boosted India’s bid for a maiden Test series win in Australia.

The Indian star has broken the record for most balls faced in a Test series between Australia and India, and Lyon is clearly sick of seeing him at the crease.

“Aren’t you bored yet?” he asked Pujara late on day one.

The cheeky quip immediately went viral on social media, with a raft of Aussies feeling Lyon’s pain.

However a number of Indian fans and media outlets saw it as a sign of Australia submitting.

“He (Pujara) is a class payer. We just have to hold our patience longer than him and we haven’t done that so far,” Josh Hazlewood said after play.

“We had some good spells and some poor ones.”

Pujara, as he has been throughout the series, was an immovable object occupying the crease with minimal fuss and maximum effect.

Hazlewood temporarily unsettled him late in the morning session with a bouncer that struck the back of the helmet, while Starc left a bruise on his arm late in the final session.

But Pujara quickly regained composure after both blows and has now spent almost 30 hours batting in this series, underlining how pivotal his patience has been in the tourists’ retention of the Border-Gavaskar trophy.

“Batting is like meditation,” Pujara said in Melbourne,” when asked about the mindset that allows him to put such a high price on his wicket.
