Shane Warne's ex-girlfriend Emily Scott has paid a touching tribute to the late Aussie cricket legend while also revealing the final message she received from him just hours before his death.

Warne's body arrived in Melbourne on a flight from Thailand on Thursday night after the 52-year-old died from a suspected heart attack one week ago.

Warne's father Keith and mother Brigitte, holding a single flower, were among several family members to meet the flight.

Warne's sudden death has triggered widespread grief as fans mourn the loss of one of the world's best-ever cricket players.

Among the many to pen tributes to the King of Spin on Friday was ex-girlfriend Scott.

“You were my friend and confidante. We’d play. You were the most fun,” the British model wrote alongside a photo of the two.

“Your kids, you were adorable with them.

“The loss feels too much. You gave the gift of your light, numerous memories, and I’ll always treasure them.”

The former glamour model also shared the final message that Warne sent to her, revealing he'd sent her a photo that appears to be from the villa on Koh Samui where he died.

Warne sent the photo at 1.05pm last Friday, just hours before his tragic death.

Warne and Scott reportedly dated for a few months in 2014 before their relationship ended not long after.

They famously attended a Coldplay concert together to watch Warne's good friend Chris Martin perform.

The Dassault Falcon 7X jet transporting Warne's body left Thailand's capital Bangkok at 8.25am local time and arrived at Melbourne's Essendon Fields Airport around 8.35pm on Thursday.

The jet taxied to a private hangar where police officers were stationed outside.

Warne's eldest daughter Brooke and son Jackson were at the hangar, as was his ex-wife Simone Callahan.

Following his death on the Thai resort island of Koh Samui last week, Warne's body was taken by ferry to the mainland city of Surat Thani, and then on to Bangkok.

Thai Police said earlier this week autopsy results showed Warne's death was due to natural causes.

Warne's family has accepted an offer from the Victorian government for a state funeral, which will be held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on March 30.

The stadium is across town from Upper Ferntree Gully, the outer Melbourne suburb where Warne was born.

"It's a fitting venue to say goodbye to someone who created so many indelible memories on that ground," Premier Daniel Andrews told reporters at parliament on Thursday.

Warne's family issued a statement on Monday night describing the night of his death as the beginning of "a never-ending nightmare".

"Looking to a future without Shane is inconceivable," his father and mother said.

"Hopefully the mountain of happy memories we all have will help us cope with our ongoing grief."
