Sam Mitchell set to announce retirement
Four-time premiership player Sam Mitchell is expected to announce his AFL retirement by next week, reports 7 News Melbourne's Tom Browne.
The West Coast midfielder was traded from Hawthorn at the end of last season after being offered a multi-year deal to join the Eagles' coaching staff after retiring.
Mitchell and the club did not put a timeline on the transition, but West Coast's struggles this season have apparently been enough for the 34-year-old to make the call.

He is likely to play out the season, which could yet involve finals footy.
Mitchell has been named to take on Brisbane at Subiaco on Sunday after he was held out of the Eagles' loss to Collingwood last weekend.
The 2012 Brownlow medallist has played 322 games in his illustrious career, earning three All Australian guernseys and five Peter Crimmins Medals at the Hawks.
He will be one of a host of greats to hang up the boots at the end of the year.
Luke Hodge and Scott Thompson recently confirmed their retirements, while St Kilda's Nick Riewoldt and Leigh Montagna could join the trio.
