The desperate search for a young Queensland rugby league player has reportedly come to a tragic end after Liam Hampson was found dead in a Barcelona nightclub.

Hampson's body was reportedly found by police overnight after he went missing on an end-of-season trip, Barcelona police told Seven Network on Thursday.

The 24 year-old Redcliffe Dolphins player had been on holiday with a group of NRL players including Gold Coast Titans star AJ Brimson and the Brisbane Broncos' Jordan Riki and Jesse Arthars.

Arthars has posted on Instagram that Hampson was missing after last being seen at the Sala Apollo nightclub at 4.30am on October 18 wearing a black T-shirt and beige shorts.

"...hasnt been able to be contacted and no one has seen him for 24 hours ... was travelling with a group and very out of character ....," he said.

"...this is very scary for all of us ...," Riki said in a repost.

Brimson had earlier taken to social media and implored help in finding their friend.

“Missing in Barcelona, Liam Hampson from Australia, last seen at Sala Apollo nightclub leaving at 4:30am 18/10,” the post Brimson shared explained.

“Wearing the clothes in the photo, hasn’t been able to be contacted and no one seen him for 24 hours....was travelling with a group and very out of character, any info would be greatly appreciated.”

Hampson reportedly died after a fall from a substantial height in the nightclub, according to Catalan News.

Liam Hampson's father's tragic statement

Following the tragic news, Hampson's father Brett took to social media to express his devastation at the news.

"Waking up to the news no one wants to hear, we are devastated to find out that Liam had an accident and sadly has not survived," Brett Hampson wrote.

"We are heartbroken to say the least. Liam had a heart of gold and was a much loved son, brother, grandson, uncle and friend.

"Words can not express our grief."

"We can not thank his mates enough for being there with Liam having the time of his life and assisting in the search for our boy. Our thought are with them."

The family have asked for their privacy during the difficult times.

Hampson had played four years in the Queensland Cup, moving from Tweed Head Seagulls to Redcliffe at the end of 2021.

He came off the bench in last month's Queensland Cup grand final loss to Norths Devils, and was in a position to impress Wayne Bennett and the NRL's 17th franchise at the Dolphins.
