LISTEN: Is this the worst sports commentary blunder ever?

A Canadian commentator has made what could be the biggest blunder in sports calling history, mixing up Ryan Lochte and Michael Phelps in the 200m Individual Medley.

As Phelps was powering away to win the 22nd Olympic gold of his career, CBC commentator Elliotte Friedman thought he was watching Lochte upset the great champion.

As you can see in the video above, it makes for hilarious viewing.

"Finally he's going to do it! Ryan Lochte is going to beat Michael Phelps and Phelps isn't even going to make the podium!"

But as Phelps touches the wall and his name splashes across the screen as coming first, viewers are left in silence as the caller realises his massive mistake.

"I apologise," he finally says. "I got my lanes mixed up, Phelps with the gold."

It could very well go down as the biggest commentating blunder in history, and no one is feeling it more than the man himself:
