NRL fans in uproar after sad reports about league legend Mark Geyer's axing at Triple M
Geyer has held a high-profile role at the radio station for well over a decade.
Former rugby league hardman Mark Geyer is feeling the love from loyal fans following his reported axing as co-host of Triple M Sydney's breakfast show Mick & MG in the Morning. Geyer, who has been at the Ms since 2009, was not on-air Wednesday or Thursday as rumours circulated about his future following several job cuts at the station.
His co-hosts Mick Molloy, who will return to Melbourne's Triple M next year, Natarsha Belling and Cat Lynch have made no mention of the former star footballer's whereabouts. The show continued to run "Mick & MG in the Morning" promos despite the absence of one of its headline acts.
Yahoo Sport Australia has contacted Geyer for comment but he is yet to respond. Upon being recalled to the morning show in 2021 following Lawrence Mooney's acrimonious exit, MG told Yahoo: "They wanted someone to bring a bit of sport content and news and views from western Sydney and the NRL and I fit that bill.
"I could talk footy all day – there will be no shortage of rugby league on the show. I think it's just about being a normal bloke with a family. I don’t pretend to be someone I'm not. I muck up words and get them wrong. I'm always told I'm 'close and a half' so that's good enough. I think the audience appreciates I'm being myself."
Asked if he could arrest the program's slide in the ratings, the former Penrith and NSW forward said: "That is a loaded question. It's a tough market but I am going to try my hardest. We just want to be in the fight and hopefully I can put the gloves on and help them."

That fight ended when the 56-year-old was reportedly counted out by management, much to the disgust of loyal listeners. "MG has been refreshing to listen to on MMM. He isn’t one of the sanitised radio “personalities" who are full of themselves. MG is honest and speaks from the heart," one supporter wrote on social media.

Another added: "2MMM are a total joke, was once a great radio station now run by suits who have no idea on what the listeners want. Where’s the 2MMM we had back 30 years ago when 2MMM was the Number 1 radio station in Sydney." Gus Worland and former Queensland Origin star Wendell Sailor, who worked together on the sports-based Rush Hour program, are among the on-air personalities to depart Triple M this year.
