'Don't deserve this': Erin Molan breaks down in emotional interview

Erin Molan has been brought to tears in an emotional interview about reports of a falling out with fellow NRL commentator Andrew Johns.

Over the weekend The Sunday Telegraph reported Johns walked out on his role on Friday night football earlier this year because of an “awkward” falling out with Molan.

Johns started the 2019 season on Friday night footy alongside Molan, before disappearing midway through the year.

Molan has copped some horrendous treatment from fans in the aftermath, leading to an outpouring of support from her colleagues.

On Thursday she broke her silence on the ugly saga in an interview with WSFM’s Jonesy and Amanda, wearing sunglasses because she couldn’t wear her contact lenses due to a lack of sleep.

“I am so sorry, I haven’t put my contacts in this morning. I had a rough night. I didn’t sleep very well and these are prescriptions,” Molan said.

Brendan Jones and Amanda Keller both threw their support behind Molan - bringing the Channel Nine presenter to tears.

“I get emotional with this Erin, I don’t understand why people give you a hard time,” Keller said.

“It pisses me off. And I think it’s because you are so professional and you are so good at your job, that I think that men don’t like you being good at what they still see as their world.

“I admire the pants off you or the eyeballs off you and I just think you are the most professional female and it’s threatened everybody.”

Keller was also brought to tears after seeing Molan break down.

“Your daughter would be so proud of you. You’re breaking the glass ceiling for a generation,” Keller added.

Molan cops ‘disgusting’ treatment

Johns also walked away from his role on the NRL Footy Show in 2018, after Molan replaced Paul Vautin as host.

The decision to hand Molan the reins didn’t go down well, with the new host receiving backlash from rugby league fans.

She then took over as host of Friday night footy when the Footy Show was axed in 2018.

Johns has denied the rift with Molan, telling the Telegraph: “Where did you hear that from? Good old rugby league just thrives on rumours and innuendo.”

However massive public interest in the reports has seen Molan attacked by NRL fans online.

“The current trolling of @Erin_Molan is disgusting & makes me embarrassed to be part social media,” Supercars reporter Riana Crehan wrote on Twitter earlier this week.

“The horrific comments are totally inexcusable. Ez is the most brilliant human, broadcaster & mentor & what she has done away from TV goes beyond what many will ever dream to achieve.”

And Crehan wasn’t alone in sending Molan their support.

Channel Nine claims Johns walked away from Friday night footy in a selfless move to get Billy Slater some more air time.

Nine’s director of sport Tom Malone told the Telegraph “this is not a story.”

“There are plenty of people in TV who get on with each other and others who don’t,” he said.
