Mongoose horde invades golf course

Of all the talent on show in the European Tour's penultimate event of the year, a group of four-legged friends did well to earn their fair share of the spotlight at the Nedbank Golf Challenge.

The pack of about 20 mongooses ran across the green at the Gary Player Country Club in Sun City, South Africa, right in the middle of play.

Some of the animals stopped to sniff the ball as they scampered past, with commentators heard laughing: ‘Don’t take the ball!’

The video quickly went viral, but for regular golfers at the country club the sight is not so unusual.

The golf course lies on the edge of the Pilanesberg Game Reserve, which is home to elephants, lions, cheetahs and leopards.

Earlier this week, one player spotted a warthog strutting across the course, while another photographed a monkey at the chipping green.
