Mundine shoves Horn by throat at heated weigh-in

Fired-up Anthony Mundine has grabbed Jeff Horn by the throat during a dramatic weigh-in for Friday’s fight in Brisbane.

The veteran boxer let out a prolonged roar after easily coming in under the 71kg catchweight for the bout, tipping the scales at Thursday’s weigh-in at 70.2kg.

Shortly after Horn had recorded 70.55kg to also make weight, the pair faced off on the stage.

During the stand-off, both fighters exchanged words before Mundine grabbed the former WBO welterweight champion and shoved him into trainer Glenn Rushton.

“I’m just fired up man,” Mundine said afterwards.

“I’m like a caged lion right now. I’m ready to eat him.”

Mundine had faced severe financial penalties if he failed to make the weight for the fight and said he’s got no fears about coming under 75kg in a pre-fight weigh-in on Friday.

Horn said he was feeling good and attributed his opponent’s aggression to frustration at having to cut weight.

“He must be struggling to make weight with the push there,” the 30-year-old said.

“I’m usually in the position he is … this time I’m feeling good.”

The Suncorp Stadium bout is a big one for both fighters.

Horn is out to rebuild his reputation after a humbling defeat to American Terence Crawford in June.

Mundine is competing in possibly the last professional fight of his 18-year career.

Friday’s fight is scheduled to start at approximately 9.30pm with a crowd of about 25,000 expected.
