The drastic move to aid Schumacher's recovery

Michael Schumacher's wife Corinna is set to take a drastic step to help her injured husband recover from his traumatic brain injury.

According to Swedish news reports, the F1 star will likely be flown from Switzerland to a state-of-the-art brain trauma centre in Texas, United States.

Swedish newspaper Expressen and German magazine Bravo report Corinna has decided brain injury specialist Dr David Meeks could be a "new hope" for the paralysed 48-year-old.

"We have extensive experience with trauma patients," Meeks said.

"There is probably no clinic in Europe that handles as many cases as we do."

The star's manager Sabine Kehm responded to these most recent reports to Motorsport Magazine.

"Michael’s health is not a public issue, and therefore we will not comment on it," Kehm said.

Schumacher suffered a serious brain injury after hitting his head on a rock in a ski accident in December 2013.

He regained consciousness in June the following year, before being moved to a medical centre at his family home later in 2014.

No offical details of his current condition are known, however a money-hungry friend reportedly took secret photos of the racing legend lying in his bed paralysed.

Schumacher's family denied claims he was able to walk with the help of therapists last year.

Schumacher retired from Ferrari in 2006 but then made a comeback with Mercedes in 2010 before finally calling it a day at the end of 2012 at the age of 43, and being replaced by Hamilton.
