'Everyone should drink out of that Melbourne Cup!'

Rekindling is taking it easy in Werribee after his win at the Melbourne Cup on Tuesday, but his owners -- one in particular -- can't say the same thing.

Entertainment promoter Michael Gudinski didn't get much sleep and was looking, and sounding, a little worse for wear on Wednesday.

"I haven't been to bed," he told Sunrise.

"I do the late shift for the 'A Team', team Williams. Not only did we quinella the race, mate, we ran last and second last!"

Gudinski praised Rekindling's trainer, the 24-year-old Joseph O'Brien, who he met for the first time on Friday.

But he also had some big words for Lloyd Williams and his family, with one mighty prediction in tow.

"Nick Williams told me about this horse at least 12, 15 months ago," he said.

"He's believed in Rekindling. Let me tell, between Nick and his father, they'll take Bart Cummings. I'm hanging in there as long as I can!"

The late racing legend Cummings won 12 Melbourne Cups as a trainer, his first coming in 1965 and his last in 2008.

Lloyd Williams has won six as an owner: 1981, 1985, 2007, 2012 and the past two years.

Gudinski, with a loose tie and scruffy hair, said he was living the dream after going back-to-back in the Melbourne Cup following Almandin's win last year.

And while he might want to sleep eventually, he still had a plan for Wednesday.

"I'll just hang in there," he said.

"I reckon that everyone in the office should get a chance to drink out of that Melbourne Cup!"
