'Sanity prevails': AFL takes action over 'unwatchable' mess

The AFL has announced it will close Marvel Stadium’s roof for the remaining day games of the 2019 season after players and fans complained about the horrible viewing experience.

Marvel Stadium’s roof is set to be closed for the remaining five day games at its Docklands venue, with the first game this week between St Kilda and Richmond.

The decision will come as a warm welcome to fans and players who have continually panned the decision of the AFL to leave it open.

The contrast between the light and shade has caused uproar with spectators at the game and watching at home struggling to keep up with the game.

Collingwood captain Scott Pendlebury led the calls for the AFL to close the roof earlier in the year during a game between the Blues and Lions.

“We talk a lot about what’s good for the fans and viewers, I’ll tell ya one thing that no one enjoys, the bloody roof open! Shambles,” he tweeted.

He wasn joined by Port Adelaide star Tom Rockliff in his disapproval.

“Roof open at Marvel Stadium. Shocking for everyone,” he wrote.

Players and AFL fans turned to social media on Thursday to applaud the decision.
