'Absolute stupidity': Why the AFL world is fuming over this photo
Players and fans were left fuming after yet another AFL match between the Blues and the Lions was overshadowed by the Marvel roof debacle.
Collingwood captain Scott Pendlebury led the calls for the AFL to close Marvel Stadium roof because it made viewing difficult for those watching at home and at the ground.
“We talk a lot about what’s good for the fans and viewers, I’ll tell ya one thing that no one enjoys, the bloody roof open! Shambles,” he tweeted.

Viewers at the stadium and at home are often trying to keep up with the ball transitioning in and out of the shadows.
Many took to social media to once again call for the AFL to make a decision.

Seriously what does it take for Marvel Stadium to shut the roof? Fans are outraged, broadcasters are outraged, BUT THEY CONTINUE TO KEEP IT OPEN! They are clearly not listening. 😡😡😡 #AFLBluesLions 🏉

Former Geelong star Jimmy Bartel was furious during commentary for 3AW.
“Why is the roof open,” he said.
“Half the fans will be shielding their eyes, people at home won’t be able to see half the game.
“We’ve got a player wearing a hat out there in the middle of winter.”
