Khabib follows UFC quit threat with stunning WWE claim

Khabib Nurmagomedov claims he has been approached by wrestling organisation, WWE, as the Russian’s threat to quit over the Conor McGregor chaos intensifies.

The Russian downed McGregor when he submitted the Irishman in the fourth round of a wildly entertaining UFC 229 main event.

He then incited a riot when he jumped out of the octagon and launched himself at McGregor’s team member Dillon Danis.

The Russian threatened to quit the UFC if the organisation maintained its stance to sack his teammate Zubaira Tukhugov for the role he played in the post-fight chaos after video emerged of him jumping the cage and punching the Irishman.

Nurmagomedov spoke of his conversation with the Russia president Vladimir Putin who reportedly said he was “very proud” of him and now he’s apparently being recruited by WWE.

On Friday, Nurmagomedov posted a tweet to publicise WWE’s apparent interest in him.

“WWE ask me to jump inside,” he said. “What do you think guys? #SmashLesnar #FakeFights.”

The hashtag is a clear reference to the former WWE Universal Champion, Brock Lesnar, who has competed successfully as a UFC fighter.

A UFC fight between Nurmagomedov, who is a lightweight, and Lesnar, who is a huge heavyweight, would never happen.

However, in the world of WWE, you can never rule anything out.

Nurmagomedov joining WWE would be a shock. After all, the fighter’s stock in the world of combat sports has never been higher after he completely dominated McGregor at UFC 229.

However, Nurmagomedov is furious at the UFC after the company claimed any member of the Nurmagomedov team who participated in the in-cage post-fight brawls that marred last weekend’s event would never fight in the UFC again.

If this drove Nurmagomedov out of the UFC, WWE may well welcome him with open arms.

McGregor’s team talks up ‘insane’ date for potential rematch

Conor McGregor’s head coach John Kavanagh has teased an ambitious and ‘insane’ date for the Irish superstar’s next UFC fight.

McGregor and Nurmagomedov are the subject of a Nevada State Athletic Comission investigation after the crazy brawl that marred UFC 229.

While they have been handed initial 10-day bans and lengthier suspensions could follow, McGregor is not expected to fight until 2019 regardless.

It remains to be seen whether he gets another shot at Nurmagomedov, who won their high-profile bout via submission in the fourth round.

The fight – McGregor’s first in the octagon in a shade under two years – raked in a reported 2.4 million pay-per-view buys and likely went down as the richest bout in UFC history.

But a rematch is far from assured.

While his opponent remains up in the air, Kavanagh wants to take advantage of McGregor’s proud Irish heritage – and his massive fan base – with a St Patrick’s Day fight in New York.

“I was looking at March 16. Patty’s day is March 17. That’s a Sunday, March 16 is a Saturday,” the coach told the Joe Rogan podcast.

“Imagine (Madison Square Garden) the night before Patty’s day. That’d be insane.”

He did pour some cold water on the idea, however, suggesting McGregor could wait even longer before his next bout.

“There’s the big summer card as well,” he said.

“You have (International) Fight Week, the July card. I think probably next summer is realistic.”

Kavanagh believes McGregor, who turns 31 in July, does want a rematch with Nurmagomedov.
