Instagram golfing sensation Paige Spiranac has revealed the extreme abuse levelled at her after becoming more vocal on baseball during the coronavirus pandemic shutdown.

Spiranac, who has more than 2.7 million followers on social media - has been vocal about her thoughts on other sports during the coronavirus pandemic, which brought with it a significant change to the sport schedule.

But recent comments on baseball, which she admitted she has a love-hate relationship with, prompted fierce backlash.

In a recent tweet, she wrote: “Sometimes I’d rather watch paint dry than watch a baseball game, but today I’ve watched 6 games. It’s a complicated relationship.”

She also wrote on Twitter: “The Padres uniforms are terrible and I’m not just saying that because a Padres fan told me to choke on a d**k today.”

But in the tweet that she referred to, which sparked the fierce backlash, Spiranac joked about Padres fans.

She received plenty of backlash and revealed just how toxic the backlash had become in the latest episode of her podcast ‘Playing A Round’.

"In my 27-years I have never met a Padres fan, then I saw a video of everyone celebrating and being so excited in San Diego,” she said.

“I retweeted the video and said 'this is funny as no one turned up to their games when they sucked.'

“Then I had all these Padres fans... I got lit up!

“I ended up apologising and regretting it because I was getting death threats, people were like 'come to El Cajon and I will cut you.'

“Some guy called me a washed-up porn star, he said 'a washed-up porn star has no right talking about baseball - get back into it w***e.’”

Spiranac cops death threats from golf fans

The Instagram sensation has received death threats before after causing outrage during one of her podcasts.

Spiranac caused controversy on the latest episode of her podcast ‘Playing A Round’ with disparaging remarks about golfers who use pushcarts rather than carry their bags.

The former pro golfer-turned social media star said any male golfer who uses a cart is a “bitch”.

“I know that pushcarts are actually good, like if you have back issues,” she said.

“But if you’re mad at me for calling you a bitch, that’s what makes you a bitch - being that upset about a pushcart.”

While a lot of the back-and-forth between Spiranac and fans has been rather light-hearted, she took to Twitter later to reveal how strongly some felt about her remarks.

“I just got a death threat over a pushcart. Pushcart mafia rolls deep. Literally,” she tweeted.
