Cristiano Ronaldo might be creating history and banging in goals at Euro 2020 at the age of 36, but one of the greatest footballer's ever is undoubtedly in the twilight of his career.

Which is why an impromptu photo between Ronaldo and French superstar Kylian Mbappe, who many consider the future of football, could go down as one of the all-time iconic images in football history.

Ronaldo scored two penalties to help send Portugal to the knockout stages, behind second-place Germany and Group leaders France, at Euro 2020.

Two goals from former Real Madrid teammate Karim Benzema left the blockbuster Group F clash 2-2.

Ronaldo's two goals also created history after he equalled the tally for most goals scored in international history.

But after the game, Ronaldo was seen sharing a joke with French star Mbappe who 14 years younger than the Portuguese legend.

Mbappe, 22, is tipped to take over the mantle as the game's biggest name, following the retirement of Ronaldo and Messi.

The image of the pair sharing a joke, in what is most likely Ronaldo's last ever Euro tournament, was enough to have fans romanticise the moment.

Mbappe has made it known he grew up as a fan of Ronaldo, which would make it more incredible the pair exchanged shirts at full time.

Following the magnitude of the photo, images started to resurface of Mbappe taking a photo with Ronaldo when was just a young teenager.

France and Portugal draw at Euro 2020

Benzema confirmed his return from international exile with his first goals for France for more than five years after being recalled for the tournament.

But it was Ronaldo who again grabbed the headlines as he equalled the world record 109 international goals scored by Iran's Ali Daei - ensuring Portugal scrambled into the knockout phase.

Ronaldo tucked away the first of three penalties in the match in the 31st minute to give his side a deserved lead but Benzema equalised from the spot in first-half stoppage time.

Benzema struck again just after halftime from Paul Pogba's superb pass and at that stage Portugal were heading out of the competition they won by beating France in 2016.

Ronaldo beat Hugo Lloris from the spot again on the hour, however, shortly before Pogba thumped a long-range effort against the crossbar in a match that sprung to life after a cagey start.

Portugal hung on in a breathless conclusion to Group F on Wednesday which meant they finished third on four points, behind Germany (four points) who twice came from behind to draw 2-2 with Hungary.

Portugal will play Belgium while France topped the group with five points to avoid a Wembley clash with England and instead will take on Switzerland in Bucharest.
