Aussie Test captain Pat Cummins has produced a breathtaking display of power-hitting after he blasted 56 runs off 15 balls in the Kolkata Knights Riders' IPL victory.

Cummins was on a mission when he entered the crease at 5-101, before he equalled the record for the fastest fifty ever seen in the IPL to help the Knight Riders to a five-wicket victory over shell-shocked Mumbai Indians.

In just one over, Cummins hit 34 runs against compatriot Daniel Sams to win the match with four overs left.

Sams was clobbered by Cummins for 6, 4, 6, 6, 2 (no-ball), 4, 6 in that one fateful last over which went for 35 runs in total.

Cummins finished with six sixes and four fours and with a remarkable strike rate of 373.33.

And the Aussie captain was just as surprised as the viewers watching.

"I think I'm probably at my best when I don't think too much. I just swing hard and tonight it just came off. Don't try to overthink it," smiled Cummins.

He has hit a couple of IPL fifties before but he reckoned this one ranked as easily the number one. "That's really satisfying, first game here, it means we're now three wins from four," he said.

"At Pune , the ball seems to fly here a bit, it's got a short side so just I tried to attack the short side."

While Cummins produced the match winning knock to help see the Knights Riders ease home, he also produced with the ball.

Cummins picked up the vital wickets of Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan during Mumbai's total of 4-161.

Cricket world reacts to insane Pat Cummins innings

His KKR captain Shreyas Iyer was simply amazed by the ball-striking. "I was just watching the ball fly!" he said.

"I couldn't believe it the way he was striking the ball, especially because yesterday when I was watching him in the nets, he was getting bowled every now and then! An outstanding performance."

Venkatesh Iyer also hit an unbeaten 50 off

The cricket world reacted with similar disbelief.

Cummins equalled the record set when KL Rahul hit 50 off 14 balls for the Punjab Kings in 2014.
