Sonny Bill Williams has taken a swipe at Paul Gallen over his foray into boxing after alluding to a future fight between the pair.

Williams made his foray into boxing back in 2009 and has won all eight of his encounters.

More recently, Williams retired from rugby and made his return to the ring against Waikato Falefehi.

Gallen has also made headlines during his boxing stint.

He fought AFL great Barry Hall in a bout labelled the 'cross-code' war.

The fight was a majority draw after two judges gave it a draw, while the third scored it for Gallen.

The former NSW captain defeated former UFC fighter Mark Hunt before knocking out Lucas Browne.

And in his highest-billing fight to date, Gallen fought against rising heavyweight star Justis Huni.

He lost after a late stoppage.

The former Sharks and NSW star hinted at further money fights in the future, which seemed to perturb Williams.

With plenty of talk about who would win between the former NRL superstars, Williams responded to some of the criticism.

“I hope you weren’t insinuating that he’s (Gallen’s) out of my league, because for myself I definitely don’t believe that,” he told ABC radio on the weekend.

“He’ll be all part of the process. For me it’s the challenge."

Sonny Bill Williams takes dig at Paul Gallen

Williams then took a dig at Gallen, who has repeatedly said he is a 'prize fighter'.

Gallen reportedly made $1.5 million for his fight against Huni, but Williams said he wasn't in it for the money.

“I don’t need to fight and he’s stated that he’s a prized fighter so he’s obviously in it for the money,” he said.

“When it comes to fighting Paul Gallen or Barry Hall, those guys are all part of the process but for me it’s about the daily grind and being wholeheartedly in it.

“That stems from something more than say, ‘I’ve got my eyes on solely focused on Paul Gallen or Barry Hall’.”

Williams said his wife has given him around two years for a number of fights before he hangs up the gloves.

He mentioned he is trying to lock in his next bout, which could be overseas.
