'Absolutely filthy': Cricket world erupts over Mitchell Starc act

Mitchell Starc has sent social media into meltdown with an absolute jaffa in the second ODI against the West Indies.

With Australia defending a modest total of 187 in Barbados, Starc got the Aussies off to the perfect start.

Starc reduced the Windies to 2-11 with dismissals of Evin Lewis and Darren Bravo, the latter of which knocked Bravo's off-stump out of the ground.

Bravo was gone for 0 after Starc got a delivery to shape in to the left-hander before it ducked away and smashed his off-stump.

Adam Zampa and Ashton Turner also chipped in with wickets to have the hosts reeling at 5-72.

But it was Starc's ball to Bravo that had the cricket world in awe, with fans flocking to social media with praise.

Unfortunately for the Aussies they didn't get much more joy as the West Indies levelled the three-match series at 1-1.

A sixth-wicket stand of 93 in 20 overs between Nicholas Pooran (59 not out off 75 balls) and Jason Holder (52 off 69) put the West Indies back in control and they cruised to victory with 12 overs to spare.

Aussies suffer another awful batting collapse

Earlier, Australia recovered from a disastrous start to be dismissed for 187 in the rescheduled second one-day international.

The tourists lost 5-22 to collapse to 6-45 in the 13th over, but Matthew Wade (36 off 68 balls) and his bowlers combined to add some much need substance to the innings before it ended on the first ball of the 48th over.

The game was postponed just moments it was scheduled to start early on Friday (AEST) after a positive Covid-19 case in the West Indies camp.

The match started 48 hours later at the scheduled time of the third ODI, after 152 people involved in the series were retested and were found to be Covid-negative.

Wade added 51 for the seventh wicket with Starc (19 off 43) before the latter was trapped lbw sweeping leg-spinner Hayden Walsh Jr.

Wade then found another handy ally in Adam Zampa (36 off 62).

They put on 32 before Wade drove a delivery from paceman Alzarri Joseph straight to extra cover.

Zampa and Wes Agar (41 off 36), who equalled his best score in any format, further frustrated the hosts with a partnership of 59 off just 53 balls before the last two wickets fell to successive deliveries.

After the quicks did the early damage the West Indies spinners took over on a pitch offering significant turn.

Left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein (3-30 off 10) ripped through the middle order, taking three wickets in six balls, conceding just a leg bye in that period.

The third and final match of the series has been pushed back to Tuesday (AEST).
