Danielle Hardwick has broken her silence after news her estranged husband and Richmond coach Damien Hardwick has started a relationship with a Tigers employee.

Richmond may have hoped the three-time AFL premiership coach’s relationship with a member of Richmond's administration staff would have played out quietly after it was approved by the club.

The 48-year-old coach confirmed in December he had split with wife Danielle, with whom he has three children.

On Monday, the club released a statement declaring the new relationship is not in breach of club policy.

But Richmond’s hopes the new relationship would play out in privacy has dissolved after Danielle posted on Instagram.

Danielle posted a quote on Instagram that read: “F**k every single person that took advantage of your kindness and mistook it for weakness.”

The situation could see a divide in the club with Brooke Cotchin, wife of Richmond captain Trent Cotchin, continually showing support for Danielle.

Richmond would be aware Brooke has continued to throw her support behind Danielle on social media.

After showing her support during the festive season, Brooke posted on Instagram again.

This time she shared a photo of Danielle with her children.

“Strength, courage, dignity,” the post read.

Danielle and the couple’s three children spent their Christmas with Richmond captain Cotchin and his family.

Cotchin’s wife Brooke posted a picture of the family, describing the Hardwick’s as their ‘second fam’ in the caption.

Danielle Hardwick replied in to the post, saying it was a ‘special’ Christmas morning.

“What a special Christmas Morning. Our hearts are full. Love you Cotchins.”
