Tottenham are offering support to Yves Bissouma and his family after the midfielder was allegedly tear gassed in a mugging in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Bissouma and his partner were set upon by two men as they arrived at the five-star Majestic Barriere hotel in the coastal resort of Cannes at around 4am on Sunday, according to reports in France.

The robbers allegedly sprayed tear gas in Bissouma's face before ripping his watch - which is thought to be worth more than £250,000 - off his wrist and fleeing in a car. Bissouma is said to have told police that he tried to take refuge inside the hotel but found the doors locked.

French police have opened an investigation while Bissouma and his partner are said to have returned to the UK later on Sunday, despite initially planning to spend several days in the south of France.

A Spurs spokesperson said: "We are aware of the incident that took place and we will continue to check on the welfare of Yves and his family."
