Youssouf Fofana confirms transfer desire amid Arsenal and Manchester United links

The race to sign Youssouf Fofana is hotting up after the Monaco midfielder confirmed his plan to leave the club this summer.

Arsenal, Manchester United, AC Milan, Atletico Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain have all been linked with the 25-year-old, who could reportedly be available for just £20million ahead of his contract expiring in 2025.

Fofana is preparing for Euro 2024 with France and detailed his agreement with Monaco allowing him to move on.

“I have spoken about it with the hierarchy, it isn’t a secret,” he told a press conference.

“We had exchanges and they agreed to accompany me in this new stage.

“If [a move] doesn’t happen, I still have a year left and I will be happy to stay.

“We were in agreement that we would accompany each other in this process in which everyone should be a winner, be it me or the club.”

Monaco CEO Thiago Scuro has also gone on the record that the Ligue 1 side are open to offers for Fofana.

Arsenal are understood to be keen on a new midfielder amid the possibility that Thomas Partey could leave, with Bruno Guimaraes of Newcastle also a target. Manchester United, meanwhile, may look to replace Sofyan Amrabat now his loan from Fiorentina has expired.

“There were good opportunities for him to leave last summer,” he told GFFN last month.

“It was his decision to stay because of his personal goals. It was a very good decision for us because he had a very good and consistent season, for him too as it was probably his best season at Monaco.

“He is probably one of the players that we are open to selling. We will see the opportunities that he has. It is still too early to make a decision.”
