Young Aussies make complete mockery of Bernard Tomic again
Alexei Popyrin and Alex Bolt have once again exposed Bernard Tomic over his extraordinary Lleyton Hewitt rant at the Australian Open.
Popyrin and Bolt successfully qualified for the Indian Wells main draw on Wednesday after surviving two rounds of qualifying in the Californian desert.

Popyrin beat Tomic’s first round conquerer Lukas Rosol 7-5 6-3 to progress to the main event of a Masters 1000 event for the first time.
And Bolt joined the 2017 French Open junior champion – and fellow Australians Alex de Minaur, Nick Kyrgios, John Millman, Matt Ebden and Jordan Thompson – in the main draw with a 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-4) final-round qualifying win over American Chris Eubanks.
The brilliant result backs up their surprise runs to the Australian Open third round in January.
But it also makes a mockery of Tomic’s blow-up at Lleyton Hewitt yet again.
A major gripe for Tomic was the perceived ‘favouritism’ the Davis Cup captain shows to a group of young players, including Popyrin and Bolt.
Tomic complained that Popyrin and Bolt were given wildcards into the Australian Open main draw, saying others like Thanasi Kokkinakis were more deserving.
But their spectacular forays into the last 32 blew Tomic’s assertion that they were only gifted entries into the grand slam because they were under Hewitt’s wing, out of the water.
And Popyrin and Bolt have now piled on the embarrassment, effectively taking Tomic’s spot at Indian Wells.
This time they did all the hard work themselves, succeeding where Tomic failed.
The irony that Popyrin beat the man who knocked Tomic out only makes it all the more embarrassing.
