Australia's Belle Brockhoff has posted a heartfelt message to her supporters from hospital, following a terrifying Winter Olympics incident that left onlookers concerned for her wellbeing.

Brockhoff was taken from the course on a stretcher after a scary mishap in the mixed snowboard cross team event in Beijing.

Australia suffered a disastrous result in the inaugural mixed event on Saturday, with Brockhoff and Josie Baff both crashing out.

With snow falling on the slopes at Genting Snow Park for the first time all week, conditions were extremely tricky for the athletes.

Brockhoff went down particularly hard after clipping the board of Lindsey Jacobellis and stayed down for an extended period.

The course was put on hold as medics attended to the Australian star, who didn't immediately get back to her feet.

She was eventually taken off the course on a stretcher and transferred to hospital for precautionary scans after complaining of a sore neck.

Posting a photo of herself from hospital in Beijing, Brockhoff thanked supporters for their kind words and admitted she was "disappointed" not to have achieved her Olympic goals.

"Still smiling and looking a lil (sic) out it, she posted on Instagram.

"Thank you everyone for the messages of support. Been offline to rest the head - I had a crash in the mixed teams event where I hit my head and felt pain down my neck.

"I was taken to get a MRI and CT scans to make sure my neck/spine wasn't damaged. I've been taking it easy since the all clear.

"It always feels so dramatic being sled off... but better to be cautious of those things.

Belle Brockhoff vows to bounce back

Brockhoff insisted the disappointment of crashing out in the mixed event - coupled with her fourth-placed finish in the women's snowboard cross - were a big learning experience.

"I am disappointed that I haven't reached the goals of a medal at these games but the goal of learning every race, every lap has been consistently hit.

"As always I'll learn, set more goals from these Games and keep learning as much as I can.

"If my goals aren't hit, then I break them down into smaller ones until I do.

"I back myself. I can be better and I will be. I choose to be."

In a classy shoutout to her Aussie teammates, Brockhoff signed off by congratulating them on what has been the country's most successful Winter Games of all time.

"Until the next race, I'll be resting up and cheering on the rest of the Aussies here!

"It's been our most successful Winter Olympics ever and there's still athletes to compete!

"Grateful to be here and sending love to all."

Australia fielded two teams in the quarter-finals as the mixed snowboard cross made its debut at the Beijing Games.

However, it ended in disaster for the Aussies after both teams failed to finish.

After Cam Bolton and Adam Lambert finished first and third in the men's leg, Brockhoff and Baff were tasked with trying to finish in the top two to progress to the semis.

However Baff crashed out early in the race and Brockhoff went down not long after.
