Wilson Odobert: Tottenham announce surprise summer signing of teenage winger
Tottenham have announced the signing of speedy winger Wilson Odobert from Burnley.
The 19-year-old joins in a deal worth £25million, with a further £5m in possible add-ons. He has signed a five-year contract at Spurs and will wear the No28 shirt.
Odobert scored five goals in 34 appearances for Burnley last season and was on target in their 4-1 win at Luton in their first game back in the Championship.
Spurs said in a statement: “We are delighted to announce that we have reached agreement for the permanent transfer of Wilson Odobert from Burnley, subject to formalities.”
Odobert is a France Under-21 international and former Burnley manager Vincent Kompany last season tipped him to have a big future.
“I will almost refrain from what I really think about him, because at this moment in time, I don’t think people realise how good he is,” said Kompany.
Odobert started his career at Paris Saint-Germain before leaving in 2022 for Troyes, where he scored four goals in 32 appearances.
His arrival will not affect Spurs teenager Mikey Moore, who will still be a regular part of the first-team squad under Ange Postecoglou this season.
But Spurs are willing to offload Manor Solomon before the transfer window closes.
