Where's the smart money in Round 1 of AFL?

Sportsbet runs over your best AFL betting options in round one of the 2015 AFL season.

Carlton v Richmond
The season opener at the G can’t be any worse than last year’s show: A game which saw the most pathetic collection of set shots we can remember. Richmond look to get the job done here, though at $1.54.

Melbourne v Gold Coast
The arrival of Paul Roos failed to muster much improvement in the Dees’ fortunes last year. Gold Coast on the other hand, continues their relentless rise, and should see off the Dees comfortably. The line of 15.5 looks charitable.

Sydney v Essendon
With the ASADA palaver tying up (maybe?) it looks as though the Dons can run their full team at the SCG, but after such a long process, you could only fancy the Swans to get up here. At $1.32, so does everyone else.

Brisbane v Collingwood
The AFL script writers may have jumped the gun a bit here, with the first visitors to Dayne Beams’ new club being his old club. Collingwood should get home, and at $2.40, is some value.

Bulldogs v West Coast
Don’t expect much flowing footy. In fact that’s the only thing we can expect with any confidence, because we’ve got no idea how this one might pan out. Stick the Eagles in your multi bet.

St Kilda v GWS
Would it be rude to call this one a wooden spoon showdown in round one? If St Kilda’s NAB challenge footy is anything to go by, it’s going to be another season of torture. GWS on the other hand have enough young guns to rob a bank and should take the W here.

Adelaide v North Melbourne
Two of the least predictable teams of recent years clash in the least predictable match of the round. And there certainly looks to be a heap of value in North at $2.25.

Fremantle v Port Adelaide
The second biggest clash of the opening round, is in fact the one we’re looking to most. It’ll be a clash of cultures and if the Power get out to an early lead, could be close at the end. Port Adelaide look immense value at $2.05.

Hawthorn v Geelong
Hawks fans, still high on their demolition of the Swans in last year’s granny, will be looking for a statement of intent against the old enemy. And we’ve a feeling that they’ll get just that.
