We've found Patrick Mahomes' only flaw: He likes ketchup on his steak

Patrick Mahomes is pretty much the perfect story. Or so we thought.

The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback has the big arm everyone loves. He has seemingly mastered the mental side of playing quarterback in just his second season. He’s photogenic. He has a funny voice that even he can laugh about. He even plays “Fortnite,” and lost to a fan playing as Mahomes. He’s a star in every way.

Finally, ESPN’s Seth Wickersham exposed a flaw, and it might be unforgivable. In a great profile about Mahomes that mostly focused on his already legendary arm strength, Wickersham wrote that Mahomes likes to eat his steak covered in ketchup. Yuck.

That’s it. Drew Brees is the new MVP frontrunner.

Patrick Mahomes likes ketchup on everything

The reason that tidbit came up in the ESPN story was that the quarterback is worried about everyone watching his every move. Including putting some Heinz on a ribeye.

Wickersham wrote that Mahomes put ketchup on everything through his life, to the point he got bottles of it for his birthday. Now, because everyone is watching him, he has stopped it.

Wickersham wrote: “At a restaurant recently, his mom, Randi, recognized an unfilled desire as he dove into a steak. ‘Just ask for it,’ Randi said. ‘I know you want it.’ Patrick wouldn’t. So she asked for the ketchup and slipped it to him.”

First of all, that’s a great reminder that moms are always moms, even when their son is the hottest name in the NFL. Also, the secret is out now. Go and ask for that ketchup, Patrick. Even if it should be a crime to put it on steak.

Mahomes is having an amazing season

What other weird food crimes does Mahomes commit? Pineapple on pizza? Does he eat that pizza with a fork and knife? Maybe he double dips his chips? The world may never know.

Mahomes has taken the NFL by storm. He leads the league with 3,150 yards and 31 touchdowns. His Chiefs are 9-1, clearly the best team in the AFC to this point. On Monday night he and the Chiefs will take on the Los Angeles Rams in what should be the highest rated “Monday Night Football” game in a long time. Mahomes has become the kind of instant star that doesn’t often happen in real life, only to Willie Beamen.

Mahomes, hopefully, is enjoying the moment. Pass the ketchup.
