WBBL team of the tournament revealed
Run-scoring machine Beth Mooney won’t be playing in the finals, but the Scorchers star has been rewarded for another fantastic year after she was named in the WBBL team of the tournament for the ninth time in 10 seasons.
Mooney was one of three Perth players picked in the side along with Chloe Ainsworth, who was named WBBL|10 Young Gun on Monday after the 19-year-old quick claimed 12 wickets at an economy rate of 5.86.
Six of the top seven leading run-scorers this season made the team, headlined by Sixers veteran Ellyse Perry, who celebrated her sixth selection in the side that was decided by the votes of the eight coaches.
Perry led all scorers with 424 at an average of 53 and was picked at the top of the order alongside Hobart’s Lizelle Lee, who crunched two centuries, including a record-breaking 150 not out.
She was one of three overseas players named in the 12-woman team, with Lee joined by Hayley Matthews and Shikha Pandey.
The Renegades have three players in the squad, with Sophie Molineux named captain after leading her team to the minor premiership and a spot in Sunday’s final.
“The 10th Weber WBBL Team of the Tournament fittingly includes a combination of all-time greats, experienced and consistent performers and new faces from Australia and overseas,” Cricket Australia executive general manager Big Bash Leagues Alistair Dobson said.
“There are few superlatives appropriate for the feats of Beth Mooney and Ellyse Perry throughout WBBL history, but we are equally pleased to recognise new players for their performances this season.
“Our congratulations go to all players selected, including the seven first-time players in the merit side and first-time captain Sophie Molineux.
“We also thank all eight WBBL head coaches for their efforts in selecting this team.”
