Nick Kyrgios serves up stunning match point stunt with fan

Say what you will of Nick Kyrgios - the man knows how to put on a show.

The Australian star was at his free-wheeling best in his straight-sets Washington Open victory over Slovakian player Norbert Gombos, 6-3, 6-3.

Looking light on his feet throughout, Kyrgios provided highlights from everywhere on the court, but he saved his best for last.

In a near unrivalled display of showmanship, Kyrgios appeared to ask a courtside fan where he should direct his first serve.

After firing down an ace to claim the match, Kyrgios made a beeline for the fan - presumably to thank them for what turned out to be some excellent advice.

Kyrgios progressed to the semi-finals, where he will face Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Kyrgios, Tsitsipas to renew friendly rivalry

According to prominent tennis reporter Ben Rothenberg, the players are having the time of their lives at the Washington Open.

Kyrgios has clearly been focusing on getting a win over his mate from Greece, using Tsitsipas’ name as something of a motivational tool while playing ping-pong with some kids prior to his match against Gombos.

Speaking after his win, Kyrgios revealed he felt like he was in an excellent frame of mind at the beginning of the hardcourt swing.

"Just super happy that all the work I'm doing off the court is translating onto the court," he said.

"Four days in a row, four matches competing at my highest level; I'm pretty happy with in honestly.

“The crowd's been amazing. I love playing night matches here.

“The crowd's hanging around for late night matches and getting into it, and I'm just trying to give them fun tennis to watch, and also trying to get some wins as well."
