Warriors fall to Lakers in Stephen Curry's return from leg injury

The good news for the Golden State Warriors is they have their best player back in action.

The bad news is a five-game win streak is over after the Warriors fell 113-105 to the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday at Crypto.com Arena.

Curry led Golden State with 27 points but was just 8-of-20 from the field (5-of-13 from 3) after a slow start. He scored 19 of his points in the fourth quarter.

But his late surge wasn't enough to overcome a 39-point, 8-rebound, 6-assist performance by Anthony Davis to lead the Lakers.

Curry had missed the last 11 games after suffering partial tears to his lower left leg in a Feb. 4 game against the Dallas Mavericks.

It interrupted what's been a stellar season for the 34-year-old former two-time MVP. He was averaging 29.4 points, 6.3 rebounds and 6.4 assists while shooting 49.5% from the field and 42.7% from 3-point range entering Sunday.

The Warriors have had an up-and-down season coming off a championship victory last summer. They're now 34-31 and fifth place in the Western Conference.

This is despite Curry missing extended time. In addition to this latest month-long absence, he missed 11 games earlier in the season with a shoulder injury.

If Curry can stay healthy the rest of the way, the defending champs have a shot to climb the standings and make another run at a title.
