Wanyama relishing 'fairy tale' link with Lennon at Dunfermline

Victor Wanyama has described his reunion with Neil Lennon at Dunfermline Athletic as "a fairy tale."

The former Kenya international, 33, spent two years at Celtic under Lennon's management between 2011 and 2013 before a £12.5m move to Southampton.

He then joined Tottenham Hotspur in 2016 before moving to Canadian MLS side CF Montreal.

Along with Lennon, he has joined the struggling Scottish Championship club on a deal until the end of the season.

Dunfermline sit second bottom of the Championship table with seven games left to play and this weekend they tackle Ayr United, who have Wanyama's former Celtic captain Scott Brown in charge.

"I'm a midfielder, so was the gaffer and I played with Scott Brown," he said. "Me and the gaffer playing against him, it's just a fairy tale. So, I'm looking forward to it.

"My intention now is to try and help the club, to help them stay in the league. And then after that, we can sit down and discuss again."

Wanyama, an unused Tottenham substitute in the 2019 Champions League final against Liverpool, says he understands why many will see this move to the Scottish second tier as a surprise.

"Wherever I've been, it has been always challenging myself, trying to get the club into the next level," he said.

"This is a challenge that I'm looking forward to accomplishing. I'm ready and hopefully, as a team, we can do it.

"I've been around, I've learned. I understand Scottish football and there's not much of a change. So we'll be good, we'll adjust with whatever is thrown my way."
