On this episode of 1K Dream Room, host Will Taylor (@brightbazaar) gives Shannon’s mismatched bedroom a hotel-quality glow-up with a budget of $1,000 and just one day to finish. Feeling like she went maximum on the minimal aesthetic resulting in a “hodgepodge” of furniture, Shannon wants her bedroom to have a more streamlined look that reflects her personality.

Fortunately, the room’s large windows, natural light, and basic furnishings lend themselves well for Will to work his design magic and create a classic, comfortable, and stylish space perfect for Shannon to unwind or entertain.

Setting the foundation of the room, Will rolls out an off-white jute area rug before replacing Shannon’s bed with a queen canopy four-poster bed in black. Will says that while black works great as a “grounding neutral,” it can make a space feel cold and sterile. So, he recommends incorporating a lot of texture to warm up an area that has many black elements, such as the jute rug and a faux fur throw blanket strewn over the bed.

In addition to the bed, Will gives Shannon’s room the 5-star hotel treatment with a corner reading nook featuring a low wingback accent chair that complements her classic American chic aesthetic. To achieve a luxe look for less, Will suggests using a neutral color palette of black, white, and beige.

Another tip he has for creating a high-end look on a budget is prioritizing symmetry when arranging items. Will incorporates symmetrical and cohesive elements with the vertical black and white floor-to-ceiling curtains framing the windows, along with the matching black nightstands with drawers accompanied by layered lighting courtesy of two modern acrylic clear accent lamps beneath lamp wall sconces on both sides of the bed. Tying the area together, three framed black and white prints hang equidistant from one another above the bed.

For the final finishing touches, Will styles Shannon’s dresser across from the bed with her large, ornate mirror alongside an assortment of sleek vessels before providing some candlelight ambiance.
When it’s time for the big unveiling, Shannon is amazed by her bedroom’s transformation and feels that the space perfectly captures her personal style. She loves the warmth and texture that the faux fur adds to her bed and how the prints seamlessly align everything in the room. Altogether, Shannon is thrilled that her new bedroom feels like a warm and inviting home that magnifies her taste.
