UFC star's husband arrested for her 'attempted murder'

The husband of UFC flyweight Rachael Ostovich has been arrested on a charge of attempted murder.

Arnold Berdon allegedly attacked his wife over the weekend during an argument, which put Ostovich in the hospital with a broken orbital bone.

According to MMAFighting.com, Berdon is in custody but has yet to be arraigned.

The arrest comes shortly after Ostovich was granted a temporary restraining order on Berdon.

Ostovich filed the order herself in Hawaii, according to TMZ, and bars Berdon from contacting her. The restraining order will expire on May 18, 2019.

Ostovich’s brother, Robby, posted a statement to his Facebook page, which Ostovich later shared on Instagram.

“I do not believe bad deeds come from bad people. I believe they come from misguided, emotional people on the edge of a cliff they can’t turn away from. Although these deeds cannot go unaccounted for i think there can still be room for sympathy. Sympathy for a daughter without her father on christmas day. Sympathy for a wife without a husband at her side. Sympathy for a man who let his demons get the better of him for a moment. What’s done is done and what will happen must happen. But, Gods word is still good and God can use any situation for the betterment of all sides of the story. All involved are in our prayers and may miracles come of it.”

Though Ostovich’s broken orbital bone didn’t require an overnight hospital stay, the injury is serious enough that she’s had to pull out of her fight with Paige VanZant, which was scheduled for Jan. 19, 2019.

Ostovich’s management team, SuckerPunch Entertainment, released a statement about her injuries and the status of the fight.

“A very unfortunate incident occurred Sunday night with Rachael Ostovich that ended with her suffering a fractured orbital and other injuries. As a result of these injuries she will not be able to compete in her upcoming bout with Paige VanZant on January 19th. Rachael is now home from the hospital with her family and will be going back for further check ups on her orbital. The family would like to ask for some privacy as they sort through this matter. We would like to thank the UFC for all their support on this matter as well as the fans and media for your concern.”

A source told TMZ that Berdon, who is also an MMA fighter, intends to argue that Ostovich attacked him first, and he was defending himself.

Berdon is bantamweight and has a 7-2 record as a pro fighter.

His last fight was in June against Jeremias Fernandez, which ended in a unanimous decision victory for Berdon.

He and Ostovich have been married since 2016 and have a daughter together.
