'Disgusting': 'KO of the year' contender stuns UFC world

Steven Peterson was fighting for his future against Martin Bravo at UFC Mexico City after suffering back-to-back defeats.

However, the American looks to have secured his job a little longer after delivering a spectacular spinning back-fist knockout to stun the crowd at the Mexico City Arena.

Peterson started the fight slowly, forced to retreat for most of Round 1 as Bravo set a blistering pace.

With about a minute remaining in the round, though, Peterson let Bravo know he was there to fight, too, by connecting on a sharp right hand.

Peterson carried the momentum into the second round by implementing the same type of attack Bravo employed in the first round.

The two fighters started going toe-to-toe with no fear, much to the delight of the fans.

As Bravo attempted a spinning back-fist, Peterson ducked and delivered one of his own to knock Bravo out cold to the canvas and earn his second UFC win.

The vicious strike left viewers in an absolute frenzy, with many describing it as the knockout of the year.

"We train to be dynamic," Peterson said as he discussed the KO. "I found the right opening (and) when he spun, I spun. I landed that back fist and it was lights out."

Aside from the victory, Peterson's extraordinary performance saw him pocket an extra $50,000 in a performance bonus award.
