MMA fighter Boston Salmon has updated fans on his condition after he was knocked out by a sickening illegal strike against Shaun West recently.

Salmon and West were doing battle at LFA 84 earlier this month when West left Salmon unconscious with a ferocious knee to the head.

Unfortunately for West, Salmon was deemed to have been down on the canvas at the time, making his knee illegal.

Salmon had one knee on the canvas, with West’s celebrations soon turning to sorrow as he was disqualified.

In most MMA promotions, a fighter is deemed to be grounded when they have any part of their body (other than one hand and the soles of the feet) touching the floor.

Salmon has since revealed he suffered a broken orbital and cheekbone, showing off a gruesome bloodied eye on Instagram on Wednesday.

“Thank you to everyone who took the time to reach out to me and the ones close to me concerning my health,” he wrote.

“Just wanted to let you all know that I’m OK and taking the necessary time to heal up and focus on my health most importantly.

“A lot of you were scared and concerned, and so was I. I can assure you that I’m OK and will be back from this.

“Smile, be happy, tell the ones you care about you love them. Sending positive vibes to everyone who supports this journey.”

MMA world hits out at Shaun West

West’s actions were widely condemned around the MMA world, and Salmon’s manager wants the fighter reprimanded.

“Aside from the DQ we feel there should be disciplinary actions enforced by the commission to set a higher precedence on these types of fouls,” Brian Butler said in a statement.

“There was no question about the legality of the knee and Boston was awarded the win at the end of the contest.

“As a team we are sitting down with Boston and his family to discuss what we want to do moving forward.

“For now Boston is going to undergo further examination and we will determine the next steps as we go.”
