'Both are scared': Boos ring out after Israel Adesanya's main event flop

Fans were left waving their phone lights and booing during a rather anti-climatic bout between champion Israel Adesanya and Yoel Romero at UFC 248.

While fireworks were expected during the much-anticipated bout, both fighters started off cautiously appearing to be weary over their opponent’s knockout ability.

The match slowly livened up but it didn’t stop the crowd getting right into the fighters.

The arena was soon lit up with spectators waving their phones in frustration.

Despite the disappointment, Adesanya did enough to control and win the fight against the 42-year-old challenger via unanimous decision.

Following the bout, Adesanya called out Paulo Costa.

UFC star’s gruesome eye injury

Middleweight Rodolfo Vieira shocked the UFC world on Sunday after overcoming a “destroyed” eye to submit his opponent.

Vieira, fighting on the undercard of Adesanya and Romero at UFC 248, registered his second UFC win after submitting Saparbek Safarov.

But the fight wasn’t straight forward after a hit from Safarov caused blood to flow from Vieira’s left eye, which eventually closed over.

This forced Vieira to go for an early submission because he was worried the fight would be stopped in the stoppage.
